Our Attempt to Photograph the Perseids!

Clouds from a thunderstorm block the Perseid meteor showers as a lightning strikes while our group of Exploretographers photograph the night skies.
Look to the left and you may spot the 1 Perseid captured!

If you are in the Phoenix area you will know monsoon season interfered with our opportunity to photograph the Perseid meteor shower this year. As organizers of a meetup group we always get messages prior to a meetup if there is any inclement weather, asking if the meetup in still on. Our answer will never change. We will ALWAYS go out regardless of the weather and here's why. If you stay at home you will most definitely miss the shot. We can't predict what will happen with the weather or the space debris but we can only go out and make the best of the situation. For us, a large part of the enjoyment comes from adventuring to out-of-the-way locations and exploring those places with our friends and cameras. We all share laughter, passion for photography, and inspire each other...and when things work out perfectly we walk away with at least 1 "keeper" image that will bring us back to the memories made that night!

With that being said we still had a group of about 15 sit with us under the cloudy sky as we hoped that the clouds would part and the stars would shine. Instead, we were surrounded by rain and what turned out to be a gorgeous lightening show. So while we don't have Perseid images to share, we hope you enjoy these weather shots instead!
